| Review Summary:
This will be my 10th summer playing this course. There have been
extensive upgrades to the clubhouse and now there is a new lodge and
conference facilities, along with addition of two new holes (#6 and #7).
The course is beautiful, difficult, unique. This is definitely the best
course in the Grand Rapids area. Advice: Tee off early because pace of
play becomes quite slow due to the difficulty of the course and the
players (either local hacks or vacationers that don't play much).
Walking is a good workout here. Greens fees have increased in recent
years, but it's definitely worth it, especially during the week. |
| Conditions:
The conditions were not good. The
greens were in horrible condition, and it doesn't look like they'll get
any better this summer, as Wendigo's management rarely puts any money
into their course. |
| Scenery:
Top notch.
Particularly on holes #3-#5. Thick woods and an abundance of wildlife
and ponds/marshland make this one of the most scenic courses in the
state. |
| Layout: Difficult
and interesting. My favorite holes are #2 and #15. This course requires
shotmaking. Length is not a problem, so if you can't hit the driver
straight, leave it in the bag and use long irons, because you must be
accurate off the tee. |
| Services:
The greenskeepers are friendly here, and will always say "hello". The
clubhouse is a different story, so don't expect too many frills. Our
carts weren't even wiped off. And I can't tell you how many times we've
finished the 9th hole with nobody in front of us, just to find that the
proshop had let somebody out in front of us on the 10th hole. |
