Review Summary:
I usually play the exec 9 after work if I can squeeze it in before leagues
start. It was nice that I could take my time and enjoy the 18 today.
I forgot what the 18 was like, and will play there again. While the
$34.00 for 18 is more than I like to pay for weekday play, I think it's
justified in some ways. I will not play 18 weekly because of the price,
but a couple of times a year is ok. Overall, nice course, generous
greens, fairways in good shape, tee boxes ok, but could be much better.
If you like to play with cut-off jeans, tee shirt and a beer in your
hand, you will fit right in. Just not my thing. |
| Conditions: Pretty
good for this time of year. Greens slower than normal. Grass is just
trying to really green up. Trees just starting to leaf out. Mid summer,
when the trees and brush are full, this course plays harder if you don't
stay near the fairway. And finding an errant shot may be difficult. |
| Scenery:
Wonderfull for a course
this close to St. Paul. The Championship 18 is better than the Exec. 9
in regards to scenery. Many mature trees and elevated tee boxes with
great views of the course. Wait until mid summer, early fall for the
best views. Fall would be great when the trees start to turn. |
| Layout:
Nice, Pretty good mix of
holes. Almost ALL holes start out with an elevated tee box to a valley
landing area with a finish to an elevated green. Then back up to another
elevated tee box. I love to walk 18 holes, but this one is a challenge!
The sight lines on this course CAN be deceiving, watch your yardages and
where you are going to hit. It's not that difficult, but many tee boxes
just don't fit the eye and leave you confused and not sure what club to
hit. If you can hit 230y off the tee, you will do just fine. If you are
longer, you can go low with your score. DRIVER is NOT the BEST choice
for many holes. You can hit driver, but the hole may play better if you
leave it in the bag. Generous greens. |
| Services:
I walked up, paid, got on. Everyone was cordial. Many people I have
talked to have said Inverwood is kind of "Snobby". I sort of agree. I
have never been mistreated, it's just sometimes, you get the feeling
that you are not wanted. For the most part, the staff is decent and
helpful if you ask for assistance. This course does do a lot of business
so choose your tee time carefully. If you are like me and like solitude,
then don't play mid morning on the weekend. Best time is 10-12 weekday.
But that is not a hard and fast rule, you have to play there a few times
to figure out when is best for you. |
