Chaska Town Course - Region 2 - Metro
Reviewed by: Sid Richison - Chanhassen, MN. Sid shoots in the 80s.
Review Summary:  A very well-conditioned golf course that is generally wide open.
Conditions:  As nearly perfect as can be expected of a public access golf course. The greens are pristine and roll true. The fairways are soft and forgiving - except for those areas where the dolts who played before you failed to replace divots OR use the sand that is provided on the carts and generously placed in the fairways.
Scenery:  Somewhat stark and almost treeless. Conditions make it nice to look at, but there really isn't any "scenery."
Layout: Here's where the problem is: the routing of the course leaves lots to be desired. There are a number of par 4's that are, to use a cliché, "tricked up." A humongous tree in the center of the fairway on a short par 4 - seriously? If not for the tricked up par 4's, the layout would be a nice, if not memorable one. Using these to make it memorable is not what any designer should want.
Services: Simply excellent. From the check-in to the rangers, everyone was welcoming and the epitome of Minnesota Nice.

Chaska Town Course - Region 2 - Metro

Review Summary:  Spectacular golf course! Best fairways in the state!. Fairly open course that still offers plenty of challenges with thick roughing, requiring many fairways to be hit. The greens are a little beat up and have suffered some winter burn... The course is also a bit pricey but the pace of play is maintained very well by rangers to make it a more than enjoyable experience!
Conditions:  Greens have suffered some winter kill. Beautiful fairways, Challenging rough. Greens roll true when in proper condition.
Scenery:  Open course with a great blend of marshland scenery and course housing gives the course a great feel of what twin cities golf is all about. The trees that are on the course are very mature and perfectly placed..
Layout: Course offers tee lengths to provide challenge and enjoyment to golfers of all skill levels.
Services: Carts have GPS features. Rangers do a good job of keeping pace of play.

Review Summary:  Conditions are great and the course is challenging.
Conditions:  Excellent. Greens are true and fast and the tee boxes and fairways are in excellent condition.
Scenery:  Very nice, carved out of swampland that makes for a very nice backdrop.
Layout: Front 9 is links style and back nine is a water/shotmaking course.
Services: Good. Beverages every 3 or 4 holes.

Review Summary:  One of the best public courses in the Metro area. Very challenging. Great condition from tee to green. The addition of carts with GPS in '06 is a real bonus giving accurate yardage from any location. If you are a walker it can get a bit lengthy from each green to tee box. Somewhat spendy non-resident fee.
Conditions:  Immaculate conditions throughout the course. Well groomed tee boxes, fairways and rough. The greens roll fast and true with the exception of hole 4. Green is heavily shaded and a bit shaggy.
Scenery:  Beautiful. Course is carved through wetlands and wildflowers.
Layout: A great design shot-wise, requiring great shots on virtually every hole. The distances and elevations from green to tee box can get quite tiresome if walking. If the budget allows, take the cart. Watch out on the first hole if you go right as the range is located adjacent to it.
Services: Excellent service on and off the course. If you are a beer drinker the selection is limited.

Review Summary:  Course layout was good, but greens were in horrible shape (May 06).
Conditions:  Played on an extremely windy and dry day and the course, especially the front nine, was very tough. The fairways, bunkers and tee boxes were in great shape, but the greens were horrible.
Scenery:  Nice scenery - the front nine is pretty open (links style), while the back nine is a little tighter.
Layout: Great layout. A couple of measurements from the tee boxes on the back (specifically nos. 13 and 15) would be nice. The tee shot on 13 is a longer carry than it looks and the fairway on 15 runs into a creek about 260 from the tee.
Services: No complaints. In fact, our cart indicated that it had a problem and a new cart arrived within 2 or 3 minutes.
